Before Angelina Jolie started her illustrious career in the Hollywood industry, she was once a fashion model at the age of 14 and was a part of the Finesse Model Management where she modelled in the United States and in Europe as well. Her first major acting debut came in 1995 when she appeared on the movie Hackers playing the role of Kate “Acid Burn” Libby, through this film, critics began to notice Angelina’s superb acting skills and even though the movie failed to make profit in the box-office, it became an instant cult hit classic after its video release. She also later appeared in the 1996 comedy flick which is a loosely based adaptation of Romeo and Juliet entitled Love Is All There Is, she played the role of Gina Malacici in the movie. She went on to do other movie endeavours on that same year with such films like Mojave Moon and the teenage, angst-ridden movie Foxfire where her acting skills was yet again to be praised by film critics as she played the role of Margret “Legs” Sadovsky.

1997 proved to be another good year for Jolie when she appeared in the movie starring opposite David Duchovny in the thriller Playing God where she played the character of a surgeon who was lured deep into the criminal world after being stripped off of her medical license. Later that year Jolie made a TV movie entitled True Women based on the book by author Janice Woods Windle. She also did a music video with legendary rockers The Rolling Stones for the song “Anybody Seen My Baby?” where she appeared as a stripper. Jolie’s career prospects were beginning to improve when she bagged her first Golden Globe Award and earned her an Emmy nomination for the biopic George Wallace. In 1998, the actress appeared on HBO’s Gia where she played the role of supermodel Gia Carangi whose life evolved around sex and drug addiction that led to her destruction as a result of being diagnosed with AIDS.

Angelina skyrocketed to Hollywood stardom and became an instant celebrity by appearing in such hit movies like Pushing Tin (1999), The Bone Collector (1999), Girl, Interrupted (1999) where she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, Gone In 60 Seconds (2000) and the big screen adaptation of the Tomb Raider series based on the popular video game where she played the role of the spunky and no-nonsense heroine Lara Croft. She also appeared in the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005 starring opposite future husband Brad Pitt, the movie was such a huge success that it grossed $478 million worldwide and the good acting chemistry between Pitt and Jolie resulted in a whirlwind romance that later stunned the entire Hollywood.

Jolie was last seen in the Robert Zemeckis animated epic Beowulf where she portrayed the mother of Grendel.
